Election Day

November 26th, 2011 by admin

Today is the big day, Election Day. I want to thank all my volunteers and supporters for a great campaign.
We had a lot of fun, even with the up and down weather.
I would also like the people of St. Vital for being so welcoming when I came to their homes. This was the 4th election in a year for St. Vital but everyone was great to me.

Remember that voting closes tonight at 8 pm.
If you need a ride or would like to know where to vote please call my office at 272 – 3270.

Public Forum Last Night

November 24th, 2011 by admin

Last night at Norberry – Glenlee Community Centre the Council of Winnipeg Women hosted an all candidates public forum. It was the first time all ten candidates were able to get together in one room and talk about our vision for St. Vital.

It was great to hear all the different ideas and see the passion from everyone. I feel I was able to speak to the real issues in our community. Issues like infrastructure, transit, traffic, community safety, investing in our community centres and helping families.

It was also great to see so many engaged residents in attendance. They had some tough but important questions and I was happy to answer them.

Election day is Saturday and I look forward to being the next the City Councillor from St. Vital.

Please call our office at 272 – 3270 if you need a ride or don’t know what location you vote at.

Welcome to Winter

November 20th, 2011 by admin

It looks like the snow is here to stay this time, but we can only hope the weather doesn’t dip too far below freezing. Although the road conditions might make getting to the polls more difficult, Mother Nature cannot stop St. Vital from getting stronger representation at City Hall. Advance polls are now open, and I would personally encourage every Canadian citizen who is over 18 and has lived in the St. Vital ward for over six months to take a form of personal identification and head to the Dakota Community Centre to vote! Why wait until the 26th where there will be long lines when you can vote now? Every vote matters, and its important to have your voice heard.
Speaking of having your voice heard, I’ve enjoyed answering emails, phone calls, as well as meeting people at their doorsteps and in my campaign office. If there is any concern or questions you have I would love to hear them. Please let me know what matters to you in St. Vital. I intend on making discussion and collaboration a central tenant of my office, if I am to be elected your next City Councillor.

There are two days left of advanced voting:
Sunday November 20 from 12pm – 6pm at Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre.
Monday November 21 from 1pm – 8pm at Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre.

You can always call my office for a ride to the polls at 272-3270 or email us at votekhan2011.ca. I would love to hear from you!

Season Change

November 8th, 2011 by admin

As I woke up this morning to find the first snowfall of the season, I became preoccupied with thinking about how the city would remove snow from the sidewalks, streets and back lanes of St. Vital. This issue, and others like it, were brought up during my discussions at Dakota Place, Mike Sunka Place and Meadowood Manor this afternoon.
I consider every issue affecting St. Vital to be a serious one. Your voice is a strong one and I will fight to make sure its strength is accurately projected in City Hall.
Meeting with seniors today gives me reinvigorated purpose for running in St. Vital. Their hard work has made our community the wonderful place it is to live today. It is my turn now to pick up the torch and run with it, leaving our children and grandchildren with a better place to live. It is a task I am energetic and passionate about pursuing.
I hope that you will join me in giving St. Vital a strong voice.
Vote for Hammad Khan on election day, November 26th and I will give our area the representation it deserves.

My First Week Working For You

November 7th, 2011 by admin

Hammad talking to families

Hello neighbours! I’ve had such a wonderful week meeting a wide variety of members in our community. This past week I visited residents at Foyer Valade, the St. Amant Centre as well as Riverside Lions. We discussed important issues, such as the state of handi-transit, the snow removal of our streets sidewalks, and the accessibility of mass transit for seniors.
I spent a great deal of time knocking on doors, meeting individuals and talking about how to make St. Vital a stronger community. It is crucial that our next city councillor understands the problems we face ain our neighbourhoods in order to provide accurate representation of St. Vital’s interests. We need to get to the root of the issues when it comes to traffic, infrastructure, community centres and other civic issues.
I look forward to meeting many more members of the constituency over the coming days, but if there is anything you would like to discuss with me please feel free to call my campaign office at (204) 272 – 3270, send me an email at votekhan2011@gmail.com, or drop by and introduce yourself, Unit E – 1086 St. Mary’s Road.
I can’t wait to make St. Vital a stronger, safer, better place to live!
Sincerely,
Hammad
